Lance Douglas – DeBary, FL
Member of Board since 2016 – Current President
I have been a Central Florida resident for nearly 45 years. I grew up in Ocala, Florida (about an hour away from the Mav) and then moved to Orlando in 1989 to attend college and earned a degree in Communications. I have been visiting the Maverick since the early 80’s when my mother bought a week. After starting my own family, we purchased our own week ~10 years ago. I LOVE the Maverick and what it offers us as owners. It has given us so much that serving on the Board is my way of giving something back. My background is in technology and I have been employed by the same company for over 21 years, headquartered out of Orlando. A little over three years ago, I switched gears and moved into an Account Executive role covering all of Northeast Florida from Volusia County up to the Georgia border. I enjoy this flexibility as it allows me the time to make regular stops at the Resort. My wife is a Real Estate Broker and we have two children (8 and 11). They have been raised regularly going to the Maverick…well, except for this past year. You will always find us recreationally somewhere in the water. It’s Florida so you have to stay cool! We enjoy scalloping off Florida’s West Coast, fishing for redfish in the salt flats, spotting gators in the St. John’s River or just soaking up some sun and crashing the waves at the beach. The Maverick is a very special place to me and I will do everything I can to make it a shining jewel on the strip. Getting the Maverick re-opened is and has been my only focus as a Board member. I know that being closed is a financial burden to owners and many feel abandoned and frustrated with very few options. I understand that many owners are on fixed incomes and anyone being asked to pay dues or fees should feel like they are benefitting with their hard earned dollars. The Maverick has owners, staff, and a Board of Directors that truly care about turning this Resort into a thriving success. We are tired of drawing the short stick and want the tables turned. I say that as am owner myself. There is too much potential too waste. We will get through this and will be positioned better than ever moving forward. Once we are re-opened, the Maverick will have a number of upgrades but there will always be areas for improvement and I look forward to bringing ideas forward and listening to owner’s suggestions that we can turn into reality. I believe we can reduce our bad debt, bring in new owners and improve our online bookings to the point that our annual fees can stay low and our improvements will be first class. Thank you for taking the time to read the bios of the current board members. The more you know about your Board should help you in deciding its leadership. Please feel free to reach out to me anytime.
Freddie Stephens, Jr. – Brooker, FL
Member of Board since October 2017, Current Vice-President
My name is Freddie Stephens Jr. I am a lifelong Florida resident and have been coming to the Maverick since 1982 when my parents bought a small unit then. They upgraded to a Cayman unit shortly after and we have loved it ever since. I live in Bradford County, Florida in Brooker, a small town near Gainesville. I have many years’ experience in the construction trades, mostly as a supervisor in the painting and decorating field. I was a Boy Scout when I was younger and enjoy the outdoors and all the activities involved in that. I bought our unit from my mother a few years ago after my dad passed away and she was no longer using it. My wife and I simply love to come down for our week in May and several times during the year for a few days here and there. The Maverick is our favorite place to go in the world. In fact we love it so much that even though we have been closed since the storm we recently purchased another week at a different time of year. I look forward to serving as a board member for as long as I can be a valuable asset to the Maverick and its owners. I appreciate the trust and support I have received from other owners and I want to let you know that I will do all in my power to make the Maverick the best place in Florida to come and enjoy the wonderful beaches and all the other great things that make it the best place to spend time away from home. If there is anything that I can do as a BOD member please send me an email and I will see what we can make happen. I also would like to thank the owners for their patience as we go through this time of re-building our beloved Maverick back to her former and better glory. Remember that the Maverick belongs to all of us, not just the Board Of Directors and we as a team can keep it the best place around. Although it seems like the time since it was damaged and now has been forever, in the grand scheme of things it will be worth it when we are done. See ya’ll at the beach soon. Sincerely and with the visions of sand in my toes again soon.
